About Me

My photo
Mercedes Irwin
Commerce, Texas, United States
I am an artist studying at Texas A&M University at Commerce. I work mostly in graphite, pastel, colored pencil, cante, oils, and acrylic. I am expanding to ceramics this year. Which I am really excited about. My work lately has been centered around the concept of childhood through a parents eyes. I am very intrigued by the memories and new understandings I have experienced since becoming a mother. Watching my children develop and adapt to the world they are in is both beautiful and heartbreaking. It has also stirred strong emotions that I did not realize I had regarding my own childhood. These emotions touch every spot on the spectrum. And I am amazed how much more I am learning by the peculiar combination of old experience and new observations. I am not sure if this is how every parent feels, but I feel compelled to document this in my work.
